Throwback to 90s television. Four giant-sized children at a nursery / day care centre run by a gentle, distracted Irish woman and a slightly strange old man who hangs around and does the gardening and DIY. The Tweenies are Bella (bossy tomboy), Milo (sounds like he's going through puberty despite barely being old enough for school), Fizz (the 'feminine' one) and Jake (Justin Fletcher). The Tweenies sing, play and get on each other's nerves, although quite how it is that they're able to manage the most intricate of crafts with those thick fingers is never fully explained. One episode features the elderly Max fronting an impromptu talent show in a Jimmy Savile wig; it was inadvertently screened again not long after the crisis broke, nearly sparking a riot in the process. Certainly the Europop sensibilities and occasionally brattish behaviour seem a little out of place in the caring, nurturing world of post-millennial CBeebies, which has led to a whole new generation of parents wondering what on earth it is they're watching. — James
