Rowan Atkinson’s definitive lovable buffoon is successfully resurrected in a seemingly practically endless number of short animated tales. We have six DVDs-worth, and there have been plenty more episodes since that so-called ‘complete’ collection! As in the live-action originals, dialogue is kept to the minimum and is barely intelligible, with most of the humour visual in nature. Recurring themes include the difficult relationship with his landlady and her cat, and his tempestuous one with his girlfriend Irma which is mostly a vehicle for their cuddly toys to get friendly. Older viewers will be happy to see plenty of homage to the live-action originals, including the famous Mini and blue Reliant Robin. It wears thin after a dozen back-to-back episodes on CITV, but it’s not bad as reboots go. — David
