Tony Ross’s popular minor royal benefits from an above-par make-over for television, as she has various mundane but mostly entertaining adventures within the environs of her parents’ palace, often at the expense of her pet cat and dog. The eponymous princess may be unsurprisingly immature and naïve, but is generally a lot more savvy than her bumbling companions, including an impotent prime minister and extremely camp hobby-horse-riding general. Even more camp in fact than Julian Clary who holds the whole thing together quite charmingly with his narrative dialogue between himself and the princess. — David
