Inspiring imaginations and having a few laughs along the way, Let's Play sees CBeebies veteran Sid Sloane team up with Rebecca Keatley, adorning various costumes and taking it in turns to engage in role play fantasies (no, not that sort) in green screen worlds accessed by a magic door. If this is all sounding rather familiar, the similarities to Mr Benn are presumably intentional, but what stamps Let's Play with its own quirky charm is the chameleonic play-acting of the housemate left behind: they assume the identities of every character with whom the other interacts in the imaginary world, and the show is thus a testament to the versatility of both. Those who complain about the lapses into stereotypes are missing the point: besides promoting gender equality, Let's Play encourages children to think, and does it well. — James
